How much does laundry service cost in Bangalore?
Per-kilogram or per-garment, what each one is for, and how to estimate a week's laundry bill without guessing.
Laundry in Bangalore is priced two different ways, and most of the confusion about cost comes from not knowing which one you are being quoted. Everyday clothes are sold by weight. Specialist cleaning is sold by garment. Those are not two prices for the same thing — they are two different services, and mixing them up is how people end up paying dry cleaning rates for a bag of t-shirts.
Priced by weight: wash and fold, wash and iron
Weight pricing exists because nobody wants to itemise a laundry bag. You hand over what you have, it goes on a scale, and you pay per kilogram. It suits the clothes you wash most often: shirts, t-shirts, trousers, casual wear, bedsheets, towels.
- Wash and fold at Luxere starts at ₹49 per kilogram. Clothes come back washed, dried and folded.
- Wash and iron starts at ₹69 per kilogram. Same wash, plus professional steam pressing, returned on hangers.
- The ₹20 difference per kilogram is the pressing. If you iron at home anyway, wash and fold is the cheaper answer.
To estimate a week: a single person's weekly load of everyday clothes is commonly in the 3–5 kilogram range, and a two-person household with bedlinen is closer to 7–9. Weigh one week's bag at home once and you will know your own number precisely, which is more useful than any average.
Priced by garment: dry cleaning and premium care
Dry cleaning is per piece because each piece is handled individually — inspected, spot treated, cleaned in solvent, then finished. Luxere dry cleaning starts at ₹199 per garment. A blazer, a wool coat, a silk shirt and a saree are all separate items of work, so they are separate line items.
Premium garment care — designer labels, bridal wear, heirloom sarees, anything beaded or hand-worked — is quoted after the garment is assessed rather than listed at a rate. That is not evasiveness. The work involved in a sequinned lehenga and a cashmere overcoat has almost nothing in common, and a single published number for both would be wrong for one of them.
What actually changes your bill
- Sending pressable clothes to wash and iron when you would have ironed them yourself. This is the most common overspend.
- Sending everyday cotton to dry cleaning. Per-garment rates on clothes that only needed a wash add up fast.
- Not sending the one thing that needed dry cleaning. A ruined jacket costs more than every laundry bill you were avoiding.
- Household linen. Sheets and towels are heavy, so they move the weight-based total more than the same volume of clothing.
Is a laundry service worth it?
Compare it against the real alternative rather than against zero. A domestic machine costs detergent, water, electricity and roughly two hours of your weekend spread across washing, drying and ironing. At weight-based rates, a week of everyday clothes is a small enough number that the question is usually about the two hours, not the rupees.
